I was just like you. My sleep sucked. I used to lay in bed, thoughts spinning, unable to get them to stop long enough to fall asleep. I went from loving sleep to dreading what would come every night. Then, after I finally fell asleep, what felt like minutes later, I’d be woken up by my phone blaring some well-meaning jingle, instantly frustrated at the thought of needing to get up to face the day.

Shitty feeling.

From the outside, I was keeping it together. I had a big corporate consulting gig, a side biz, friends, family, hobbies…

But inside, I felt like I was giving half of myself all the time. Anxiety-ridden, exhausted, frustrated, and sad. 

And finally, one day, what I had been bottling up came pouring out. Three life changing events happened almost at the same time (read on) and I couldn’t handle it. In a true form of ‘perfect timing’ I was taking a cohort for a leadership program I was in, and the workshop leader talked about different styles of meditation. It got me thinking, and that night, I went on an app and randomly found one about sleep. 

It almost did the trick. But it was just enough to take the edge off, and I knew I was on to something.

I’ve led yoga and meditation for a few years, and benefited from it immensely. But sleep had crept back up to be a problem. I took what I knew, layered on some neuropsychological aspects, added elements of an ancient sleep meditation approach, and came up with a tailored form that gave me a new super power: fall asleep faster, stay asleep longer, and if I do wake up, the ability to get back to sleep with little effort.

 

And this helped me to train my body and mind what it means to sleep. I rarely have challenges now, and when I do, I have the tools to get through it fast.
